The Pikes Peak Radio Amateur Association is sponsoring the 2008 Colorado QSO Party on September 20 (4:00 AM to 10:00 PM MDST) 1000 UTC to 0400 UTC September 21 and all Colorado stations are encouraged to get on to activate your counties. Contest categories include high power, low power, QRP, VHF and will be on voice, CW, or mixed voice/cw and numerous plaque or paper certificate awards will be given out for winners of those categories. RULES and other COQP info are on the website: www.ppraa.org/coqp.

In July of 2007, the PPRAA targeted the timeframe for the COQP to coincide with the County Hunters Convention being held in Aurora, CO. As a result, there were quite a few of the CH mobiles to help activate many Colorado counties. However, this year the CH convention isn't meeting in Colorado so the PPRAA and the various organizations sponsoring plaques are hopeful that Colorado clubs, organizations, local county hunters, casual operators, vhf operators, and contesters will be active on September 20 to help pass out contacts and counties to the stations around the country or overseas. Mobile stations will be especially helpful since they can activate many counties so here is an opportunity to test out your mobile operation. Present gasoline costs can be a challenge for mobile operations but it can be helpful if you can activate even a few counties near your home.

PPRAA has a website where they will post the callsigns of stations who will activate the county for the contest either from home or from a mobile operation. Please let them know even tentatively which counties you might put on at coqp-counties at ppraa.org.

Hope to work you in the Colorado QSO Party!
