[RMVHF] Possible solution

Lauren,
It has already happened in a few HF contests where there is no
distinction between assisted and non-assisted single operators which I
think makes sense and maybe the ARRL VHF contests should go this way
soon (2009?). It is pretty much a given that multiops have web access
for all contests. With VHF participation dropping, this might bring some
people back to the fold and turn things around. With the wide use of
Blackberrys etc, even rovers and portables can have lots of internet
access. I can see a point where there will be no separate class for
assisted and everyone can use spots and I think that day is getting very
close. It has always amazed me that not more people enter the assisted
class in HF contests since it was first created. With the point and
click features of the logging programs, S&P all of a sudden is something
all operators can do more of at a respectable rate. It actually gives
one a whole new outlook on S&P and it is darn fun too. It further amazes
me that the assisted ops generally are down a rung or two from the
unassisted ops and there are definitely some good operator skills and
top notch equipment in the assisted group and this just doesn't make
sense. The obvious thought that comes to mind, is that a significant
number of unassisted ops could be sneaking the more than occasional look
at spots. A certain number have been caught with their hand in the
cookie jar! Allowing spots for everyone (IMHO) is going to happen so we
need to start planning on how to do it.
