Hi Guys greeting from Evergreen,
Both SAR Team and ARES/RACES Team members now need to train on and
understand the Incident Command System (ICS) and associated terminology
along with (for ARES) ARES EMCOMM procedures.
Public Safety commanders don't have the time to ascertain your training and
experience level during an incident. You must be a recognized, trained
member of a team before an incident. You frequently need to show a "Red
Card"-- an ICS Qualification card and/or a government agency badge to be
allowed into an incident. Showing up untrained, at the last minute rarely
provides meaningful help anymore.
Homeland Security grant funding to local public safety agencies specifies
that the agencies' members must be ICS and National Incident Management
System (NIMS) trained to quality for Colorado Department Of Local Affairs
(DOLA) grant funding. No training--no grant money.
Contact the Colorado Search and Rescue Board (CSRB) at
http://www.coloradosarboard.org/ or Colorado ARES at
http://www.coloradoares.org/ for more information.
